CarrotClock App

An eye-care timer that works a lot like a Pomodoro timer. It was my solo entry for the 2024 Swift Student Challenge.

  • Taoyuan Vocational HS (NTUT-affiliated)
  • HS Year 3
  • 2024
  • Solo project
Three iPhones fanned out, each showing a different CarrotClock screen.
Entry

Highlights

  • Customizable focus and break times, with defaults based on World Health Organization recommendations
  • Smooth animations and sound cues for a nicer experience
  • Background push notifications that remind you to rest your eyes
  • A little journal for jotting down small discoveries from everyday life
  • Simple, easy-to-follow pages explaining eye care and how to use the app

Challenges and How I Handled Them

  • Using UserNotifications to send eye-care reminders even when the app is closed
  • Trying to show the countdown in the Dynamic Island (which didn’t work out because of the limits of the competition’s required app format)
  • Keeping the UI polished, with things like smooth button animations and carefully designed sound cues

Looking Back

I need to plan my time better. Next time I hope to start early and build something that gets Tim Cook to say “Amazing.”
